Beep, Beep, Beep, Beep, Beep....

What? What's wrong? What? What is that... Oh the alarm clock. I'll just hit snooze for a bit. (*pressing snooze*)

(*moving towards bed and warmth*) No, I can't snooze. If I snooze, I'll never want to get up. But it's so warm in bed. It's so dark outside. It's going to be almost 40ยบ this morning. I'll be cold on the way to work. I got up at 4:30am yesterday and I need some extra sleep. (*turning off alarm clock*)

I'll just rest here on the floor for a second. It's not too comfortable, so I wont fall asleep. (*kneeling down on the floor in fetal position*)

(*snapping back awake*) Dang, I was falling asleep. I'll put on some warmer clothes and just have some breakfast. I can decide about biking to work after that. (*taking care of bathroom business and getting dressed> That's better. I'm not so cold now. (*heading to kitchen*)

(*turning on light in kitchen*) Man I hate bright lights. (*gathering breakfast supplies*) I like Cocoa Puffs. Mmmm, apple juice, I sure am thirsty. I must not have drank enough yesterday. (*eating then cleaning up table*)

It's still dark out, and cold. Maybe I could just sleep some more and bike to work a bit later. But then I'd be more likely to skip the biking to try to get in on time. I need to either leave now, or decide to give up on my 30 day commuting goal. (*walking solemnly to bedroom to get dressed*)

(*putting on commuting clothes*) I'll just add an extra layer so I'm not so cold on the way to work. That's better, I'm nice and warm now. (*walking to stairs, sitting down, putting on biking shoes, laying down at top of stairs*) But I'm just so tired. I can just lay here for a bit.

(*Ben opening door to his bedroom*) Or maybe not. (*giving Ben a hug and kiss, receiving a zerbert from Ben*) Little stinker always does that, but it cracks me up and makes me smile. (*giving Ben a zerbert*)

Time to go. (*walking to garage and grabbing bike*) I think I have everything (*checking backpack, then opening and closing garage*) There's Ben at the window. He always wants to wave goodbye. This wave goodbye ritual gets longer every time. (* waving, waving with fingers, doing I-Love-You-Two sign language, doing floppy hand wave, doing wave with a boo-boo lip face, doing entire arm wave*) OK, off I go. (* turning around to wave again because Ben knocked on window*) He does that every day, I wonder why he always wants to wave one more time after I get on the bike.

(*rolling down the big hill from our house*) BRRRRRR! It's cold out here. But I did it. I didn't want to get up, but now that I'm out here, I feel great. It's so quiet in the morning. Most people are just getting out of bed, and I'm already out on the bike getting exercise. I love this time of year. The air is so crisp. I'm sure glad I didn't stay in bed because this is awesome.

I kinda like not having a choice of driving. We got 1 car and 2 people working, so I'm on my bike every day. I would like to say that I'm jealous of your commute distance, but I'm sure I would be feeling like your post on most mornings. The MAT bus would probably get used often.

Congratulations though, on keeping it going. All your crazy goals make me feel like I'm not accomplishing anything. Thanks. I do have a new goal that I'll be posting about soon though. And I believe it's worth it.

I've actually considered getting rid of one of our cars. It does not get used often. I'm sure that if we didn't have it, I would miss it eventually. I do plan to park it in the garage here at work in the month of November to try and force myself to bike commuter that month as well.

Thanks for the encouragement. Some of my goals are working out well, but continue to struggle with the 1 hour goal for some reason.

I look forward to seeing you post on the goals topic.

BTW... my commute distance is 13.5 right now. I can get here in 10.5 if I take State Street out to 120th, and 120th all the way to Center, but that's a lot of traffic time. My 17.5 mile route is more of a summer route when I'm trying to train a bit more.

I have considered the MAT bus from time to time. I just don't know to figure out how to get from A to B on that system. Or, at least I haven't tried to yet. Plus, the extra $1.50 a ride kind of kills off the gas savings. I wonder what will happen if lots of bikers start using the MAT and more than two cyclists want to ride at the same time. The racks only hold 2 bikes. I suppose the third guy would just have to wait for the next bus.

It's amazing that when we know it going to feel good once we're out there, there's some magnetic force trying to keep one in bed.

My work commute is in the afternoon or evening so no wake up and ride for me. Riding home with lights has been cool. Taking the longer route through SBL to enjoy the ride more.
