Keli and I are working on remodeling the basement, so I haven't had time to post. We finished removing everything from the basement on Monday (it took 2 weeks). Then Keli started painting on Tuesday and we received our cabinets on Wednesday (or at least we received some of them). Our cabinet order was delivered with the exception of the two hanging cabinets and the toe kicks. I started installing the base units yesterday. So far I've done it solo and have installed the 5 left side cabinets. I'll install the 3 left side cabinets tonight. I guess we will find out if my skills are up to snuff when our counter-top guy comes in to measure for the counter-top. Keli keeps telling me how nice it looks and that she is proud of me, but I just keep thinking that somebody is going to come along and point out that I did it all wrong and would have to do it all over again. The cabinets look pretty strait/level considering that our floor is not level, the wall is not plumb (imagine waves made with drywall), and the corner isn't square. Seems like I've used about 1,000 shims so far.
By this time next week we should have the carpet reinstalled and hopefully a completed counter-top. Then we have to wait for the two missing cabinets to get built and delivered before we can install the uppers. Follow that with a massive amount of transferring stuff, shampooing the carpet, moving furniture back in, and then we should have a new/improved basement. Once that project is done, we have to buy a new bed for Ben's new room (what used to be the school room). Brandon will be getting an art station in his room as well. Ben is super stoked about having his own room. He was putting clothes in his new closet even before Keli could get all the stuff out of it that had been stored there.

Don't worry about the flaws so much. You'll see what other people don't because you did the work.
I shake my head every time I look at a tile floor (my first and only so far) that I did in our bathroom. I can see each and every mistake, but other people tell me it looks nice.
Have fun fixing up your house. It's rewarding and you will save money that you can spend on bike stuff. :)
Good point. Now to convince Keli to let me spend the money we are saving on installation labor on bike stuff. ;-)
