And that's that!

The local MTB race series race season is now over. The last race was this weekend. I managed to finish first in the Sport 35+ division to take home the Nebraska State Championship MTB XC 1st place medal (for that division). Next year I get to race in the Expert division with all the fast guys. I can't wait.

Thanks to a few other racers missing some of the races so I could get a points lead, I also won the point series for my division in the series. There are some very fast guys in that division including: Erik P., James F., Mark B., and Jeff B. (among others). I was just lucky to make it to all the races and collect all the resulting points. See you all next year, but you'll have to bump up to expert with me ;-).

Congrats on an incredibly successful first year of mtb racing! Glad you jumped into Sport instead of Beginner.

From the Swanson stats, you will need to go about 1 min 30 sec faster per lap for two extra laps to hit E35+ podium. ~7% faster is possible, but I see longer training rides and more intervals in your future! 8-)

Thinking about any weight and cross training for the start of next season's training?

I might do a tiny bit of running. But I don't have access to weights, so I wont be doing any weight training other than what I can do at home.

If I get a good winter of commuting in, I'll be bighting at the heels of the expert 35+ podium guys. We shall see.

Something to consider - since cycling is a non weight bearing exercise, bone density decreases over time. Thus, many trainers suggest off season running, weight training, etc., to strengthen the bones.

Good advice. I'll see if I can work something into the schedule for this winter.
