I've managed to commute to work the last three days. I've been adding miles to my commutes to help the my companies team score points in the Bicycle Commuter Challenge. This is the last week, so I'm trying to earn as many points as I can before the competition ends. I'm up to 134 miles in the last 3 days thanks to some early morning departures and a LOT of time on the Keystone trail. The plan is to commute all 5 days and then throw in a commute to work on Sunday EARLY in the morning before taking part in the Corporate Cycling Challenge. That will allow me to count all the miles on Sunday as a commute.
Now the miles are not too bad, it just takes time. The hard part is that a friend of mine got me thinking about commuting on a Single Speed bike. I race my mountain bike with only one gear on it, why not commute to work the same way. So I decided to try it out by picking an appropriate gear on my geared commuter bike and NOT SWITCHING GEARS during my commute. So I've rode all of the last 134 miles in one gear. It's not too bad on the keystone where the gear I've chosen is fairly easy, but climbing the hills after I get off the trail can be a real bear. Now I just have to decide if I want to switch the parts on my bike to make it a true Single Speed.....Hmmmm.
