Facebook Face-off

SO... hear is my brief dip into the world of Facebook in the form of short thoughts.

"My friend has a Facebook account with pictures of his new daughter on it. I should set up an account so that I can see those pictures."

"This is kind of cool! I can get in touch with all my old college cross country buddies."

"Holy cow. Facebook is sending me 60 emails a day. That's annoying. I'll just turn all the Facebook emails off."

"Cool. Lots of my church friends are on Facebook."

"Some of the advertisements and challenges on Facebook are very sexual. Not good."

"Hmm... some people share WAY too openly on Facebook. I wonder if they know how unsafe that is."

"WOW... I can even look up all the people that I graduated from high school with."

"I wonder if my old high school girlfriend has a Facebook account." FAIL!

That last thought quickly ended my right to spend any time on Facebook...EVER! I have a wonderful wife who I adore and my eyes, mind, and soul belong to her for the rest of my life. So I have deactivated my Facebook account. Hopefully my 83 Facebook friends wont mind too much.

Facebook may be a good place for others to reunite with old friends, but for me it was just a big distraction, and a dangerous one at that.  I've heard many accounts of how Facebook and the misuse of Facebook has destroyed marriage.  Not this marriage...bye bye Facebook.

However, Facebook did highlight to me that I've done a terrible job of keeping in touch with many of the people that have been an important part of my life.  So I hereby resolve to implement FaceToFaceBook in my life. So if you read this blog, and I haven't had you over to my place for dinner in a while, drop me an email so we can set up a time for our families to get "FaceToFace" time. You bring the dessert and I'll provide the burgers (or veggie burgers for those that roll like that).

Shouldn't be a problem since I deactivated my Facebook account. ;-)

I have one, I just ignore it. If I'm bored, I may read some peoples updates, but I'm on the site only a couple times a week.

I like your facetoface idea. I enjoy back and forth dialog much more than one liners about how people are doing. But, everyone has their own thing.

Facebook itself isn't all bad. It's just my understanding of who I am and my weaknesses that make it a bad thing FOR ME.

Munsoned...is you significant other going to join us for camping during the crank-n-camp? She can ride with my wife and boys if she wants to.

She can't cause she has to work by 10am on Sunday. I'll ask her though, if the work schedule is different, if she'd like to join.
