BRAN: Day 5, Round 1

[Today's journey was a short 59 miles from Ord to Fullerton. The weather appeared to be better than the last couple days and the riders enjoyed themselves.]

BRAN's website quote: "The morning takes us along the scenic North Loup River to today's highlight: the Happy Jack Chalk Mine. Formed 6-10 million years ago, today it is the only publicly accessible room-and-pillar mine in North America. Tours are available. Would you believe elephants, rhinoceros, and camels once roamed this area? The easy start and respite will help conquer the landscape later on."

[Bob got a hold of me this afternoon, with the following information:]

The crew was up and on the road at 5:20. Bob decided that he was going to break away from the crew and bike hard today. After about 2-3 miles, he broke away. Since it was early, there were not many out. However, Bob eventually hooked up with a couple fast guys. His average was 20.3 miles, in which he says is "The fastest ride of my life." Way to go Bob!

Needless to say, Bob rolled into town early, at around 9:10. Shortly after that Ken and Mark rolled in. They hooked up and had brunch at one of the local diners in Fullerton. Phil rolled into town a couple hours afterwards. They all had a great day today.

They will be camping in the city park tonight. He said that there is the feel of a party atmosphere. The city even opened the pool for BRAN riders. Bob got a hold of me a bit later, and John McCloskey, a.k.a. the "BRAN Minstrel" was singing in the background. You can read more about him here and you can hear his songs here.

[Overall, it sounded like the crew had an amazing day. It seems almost too sad to say, but their trip is only two more days. I sure hope they soak up the sun, the relaxation and enjoy themselves to the fullest!]

Bob- Hope you have another exciting BRAN day! It has been great fun reading about your adventures and I am just sorry I am catching an early flight out of Omaha tomorrow or I would come see you in Waterloo! See you soon! Dani

Bob - It's been fun reading your blog every day. I'm exhausted just thinking about your trip, but it also sounds like so much fun. You are currently in my home area! Fullerton is just a 20 minute drive from my parent's house and the Loup River Inn in Fullerton is where I had my wedding reception. They have GREAT food. I should have told you about that sooner. If your trip from Brainard to Wahoo is on Hwy 92, then I know that drive quite well. Enjoy your last few days and we'll see you next week!

Danielle... sorry I'll miss you. I had another great day. I slept in till 6:30 (pretty late by BRAN standards), hung around, had a relaxed breakfast and left town at 9:30. I didn't get in town here at Brainard till 3:00 or so.

Darlene... I'm glad your enjoying the blog. I am to. I rode over the Loop river today. It was flowing fast because of all the rain the last few days. I was on 92 for a while today. BUSY!... not the best place for bikes.
