BRAN: Day 3, Round 2

[Today was a good day for cellular service. Bobby managed to get through to me and, hopefully, his wife.

Bobby was up and on the road around 5:50 AM and arrived in Merna around 10:10 AM. That is 4 hours and 20 minutes to bike 68 miles. Since it was raining, he was one of the first few to arrive into town. It appears that that are several bikers that will leave around 3:00 AM but, due to the rain, slept in. Bobby, Kim, Mark, Phil were even blessed today with a day off of having to pack up the tents. Their support crew stepped in and packed it up after they left. Thanks team!

The description of the ride was "Soggy" in the morning, "Wet" on the morning ride, "Drizzly" during the late morning, "Spooky" due to a heavy fog, and "HOT" due to a shower upon arriving into town.

Everyone made it to camp and everyone had a great day. It sounded like Phil had a couple bad days, due to some head aches. Bobby, Kim, Mark, Phil claimed that today was a great day, even through the moistness of it. This might be due everyone staying cool (wet) or their bodies are now acclimated to the stress of riding for several hours.

In the end, the remaining days should be a tremendous blast for everyone. Tomorrow is their shortest ride, of the six days. That is, if they last through the night. Tonight, they will have dined in the local High School around 5:30. Bobby's sleeping bag was even getting a good drying there. Then back to the camp to endure a potentially bigger storm. Bobby says it could be a bit dicey, but they can always hit the High School, if needed.]

[I had a couple questions for Bobby:]

1) Did Phil and/or Bob shave their legs? In the end, neither did so. Phil even gave a rather "firm NO" to the thought. Seems, he was joking on the ride up.

2) Did any of the bikers have to jump off their bikes and walk the hills. Again, I got another no. Even though it was a long ride, and the hills were crazy, the SAG stops are a great time to rest.

[So, what is a SAG stop? I'm glad you asked.]

Definition from another site (could not find BRANs definition): "SAGs (stop and go support areas) are for bikers to take a break, enjoy nutritious food an relax with old and new friends. All SAG stops have food and drinks, such as watermelon, bananas, granola bars, energy bars, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, chocolate bars, water, Gatorade - most of which are generously donated by local vendors." The site goes on to say that bikers can get the bikes serviced, get medical attention, and travel along the route in case a biker is unable to continue via bike.

[Aren't you glad you asked?]

[I also asked about Tony's opportunities to share his trade with the bikers. Seems that too many people (myself included) have the idea that Chiropractors main method of service is back cracking and massages. It seems that Tony has a cool water bed table that you lay on. Then, their are water jets that massage the back. I did a little searching and I think it might be similar to this product. I could be completely wrong, so I will keep you informed if I get a chance to ask for further details.]

Hi Bob: We are going to get the rain today that you road through yesterday. I checked the radar, and it looks like you will have another wet day today. But we are suppose to have a dry Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Everything going OK here. Mom

Hi Son, Are you there yet? Wish I could be there on Saturday to see you finish but as you are well aware, I have a previous huge committment. "Ride to Live and Live to Ride"! Of course my two wheel ride has to be motorized these days. Dad

Anonymous... Yes... we got a LOT rain today. Hopefully tomorrow will be better, but the forcast says rain.... BRING IT ON!!!

Donna... I did. Had to brush my teeth to get the gravel out when I got into ord. After a shower we went into town to do laundry... just beat the rush for the washer/dryers so we only had to wait in line 2 hours to get done.

anonymous... Hi Dad... I made it. I think the people I ride with think I'm a bit daft. While they are riding around the puddles I'm looking for the deepest ones to ride through. But hey... I was already soaked... might as well enjoy it.
