Well, I wasn't quite fast enough to get to stand on my own can of Red Bull, but I got close. The race this weekend was a BLAST! I started off my day at 5:30 cooking some pancakes at my church for a men's breakfast. Then I high-tailed it over to Tranquility park to help with some course prep and setup. By 9:50 I was done with my setup duties and relaxing in my nice warm van. The beginners race started at 10:00 and I got to watch the start and a good portion of the race from my cozy van. My race was at 12:00 and what a blast that was. I was at a bit of a disadvantage riding my single speed (only one gear) against all the geared bikes in the Sport 35+ class, but only on the flat easy sections. The course was well marked and there were people cheering in lots of places. As always, Bike Masters organized a great event. They even went above and beyond to give gift certificates to more than just the top 3 in some events where they had a larger number of racers. They could have just pocketed that money to help pay for some of the expenses of hosting a race, but instead they gave it right back out to the racers. Those guys always impress me with how generous they are.
All in all, it was a great day of racing, hanging out with friends, and trying to stay awake the rest of the day after I got back home.

Quite the punster! I don't think you need any more bull!
Thanks for the setup/teardown help and the tent tarps! I had something we could have rigged up but the actual ez-up tent tarps were the best!
Congrats also on rocking your SS to 4th!
Do you think you had the right gear ratio for the race?
I think 32x18 was a bit low. I MIGHT have done a tad better with 32x17, but it's hard to tell how I would have done on the hills with that ratio.
I'll be trying 32x17 at swanson and, if I can find a 16, I'll do some training with that at tranquility.
kMy 32x19 is starting to feel just a little low at Tranquility too.
I think L&C is in the near future with the 19t. That should make an 18t at Swanson feel easier.
32x18 still hurts on the hills, but I doubt even a 32x20 would feel any better, so I'll try 32x17 and 32x16 to see how my lap time compare. As long as I'm not bogging down on the flat technical stuff, it should only help.
Now if I could just figure out how to get a stronger peddle stroke all the way around to help push the taller gears, I'd be set.
Get on a flat or slight downhill, unclip one foot and pedal for 20-30 seconds, switch feet and repeat.
One leg pedaling drill works great on a trainer.
I'll give that a shot. I've done one foot drills before, I just wasn't very good at them. Guess now I know why.
